FATHER'S PARENTAL RIGHTS LAW CENTER of OKLAHOMA

Always Keep In Touch With Your Child(ren) If You Move Out Of State

At the Father's Parental Rights Law Center, we frequently see cases where the mom tries to first lessen and then virtually eliminate contact with the Father if he moves out of state.  If mom has a new husband, she may be trying to get her new husband to adopt your child via a step-parent adoption.  She may begin to have your child call the new husband/boyfriend "Daddy".   To keep this from happening, it is critical that you have evidence you tried to maintain the role of a Dad to your child(ren).  Tell her in writing that you object to your child(ren) calling another man "Dad".  Keep your phone records and copies of letters you send (certified mail/e-mail).  To maintain contact with your child(ren), a web-cam is helpful so that your child can see you, rather than just talking on the phone. Always stay current on child support and unreimbursed medical expenses.  Pay something even if you can't pay the entire bill.  If you have an existing court order for visitation, you can file a Motion to Enforce Visitation which must be heard in 21 days.  Let us know if you need help with your rights in a Divorce, Paternity, or Child Custody case.
